A password can secure the contents of your iPhone from unauthorized entrance, offering an additional line of protection when storing important business files or personal materials on the device. If you forget the password, you can bypass the password and will again access to the iPhone by achieving a system restore. Using a backup created in iTunes before which the password existed offers the best solution to the problem, but if no backup exists, you can still use iTunes to reset your device. Reseting the iPhone without a backup will result in the loss of the contents currently stored in the device.

Restore Using iTunes and an Existing Backup
- Turn on your iPhone you want to reset.
- Connect your iPhone to the computer using a USB cable. Open the iTunes software if it does not do it automatically.
- Locate and right-click the icon representing the device and then select the "Back up" option. This creates a backup of current contents of iPhone that you may use it later to re-populate the device. Wait till the backup process to complete before proceeding next.
- Click "File" followed by "Devices" and the "Restore from Back up" option. Choose a backup with a date prior to the addition of the password.
Restore Using iTunes if No Backup Exists
- Hold down the iPhone "Sleep / Wake up" button until the slider appear on the screen and then use the fingertip to slide the slider to turn off the device.
- Connect the iPhone to computer using a USB cable. Do not connect the iPhone at this time.
- Hold down the iPhone "Home" button as you connect the other end of the USB cable to the device. The iPhone will now turn on automatically.
- Continue to hold down the “Home” button until "Connected to iTunes" message appear on the screen. Then release the "Home" button. A message will be appeared that iTunes detect the iPhone as a device in recovery mode.
- Now click "OK" button and then click "Restore" button to start the reset process. This will delete all data currently saved on the iPhone.
